The Casati Story
Three people, one unconventional path. A father who traded certainty for freedom — and two sons who turned the ocean into a school.
A father who chose a different life raises two sons into world-class athletes — building a method that rewrote the history of kitesurfing.
The Casati Story
Three people, one unconventional path. A father who traded certainty for freedom — and two sons who turned the ocean into a school.

Father · Coach · Architect of a method
Years ago, Renato left everything behind — a job, a path already written — to raise his sons by the sea. He turned the ocean into a classroom and every day into training: discipline, analysis, absolute trust. He coaches by observing and questioning, pushing them to understand themselves, not just the sport.

Two Brothers
Lorenzo and Leonardo grew up between wind, water, and daily sessions with their father. They share the same falls and the same hunger to grow — two riders shaped by one method, driven by different instincts. Their rivalry is fuel. Their bond is strength.

Lore
One of the most dominant riders Big Air has ever seen. Years at the very top of the sport — and a 2025 that redefined what's possible in the air.

Leo
The sport's newest revelation — and now its World Champion. Junior world titles, a Red Bull King of the Air podium, and a rise to the very top among the youngest ever. Instinctive, expressive, fearless: he rides without hesitation.
Defined by a method
Every day is training.
Every mistake is data.
Every session, a chance to grow.
Inspiration
Not a sequence of talking heads in front of a backdrop. A film that enters the places, follows the people and captures the moments that aren't built — shot in black and white, close and observational.
Color stripped away, so texture, faces and the raw materiality of wind and water carry the emotion.
Home videos and early footage — raw, imperfect, never released — woven through the present-day story.
Following the family in unguarded moments. The film lives in the silence between the action, not in built scenes.
The breath before a jump, the crash, the look exchanged when no one speaks — motion sets the rhythm.

The Production Roadmap
Raised by the Wind isn't shot in one go. It's built in chapters — five places in the Casati world. Each block delivers a short episode (~2 min) and two reels, released as the project moves. Together, they become the full documentary.
What the riders say when the Casatis aren't listening.
One of the capitals of the kite world. Here we hand the story to the people around them — riders, coaches, friends. How a self-made family from an Italian lake rewrote a sport, how they changed training culture, and why it matters beyond the results. Outside voices that give the legend its weight.
Output — Short episode (~2 min) + 2 reels
Before the ocean, there was a lake.
We go back to where Renato began. Interviews with his parents — the grandparents who watched a young man refuse the life laid out for him. Old streets, old photographs, the house he left. This is the "before": the certainty Renato traded for wind, and the roots his sons carry without ever having lived them.
Output — Short episode (~2 min) + 2 reels
Where the wind never stops, neither do they.
Relentless wind, endless water. Hours of repetition, wipeouts, resets — Renato on the beach reading every jump like data. This is the method in motion: every session a lesson, every crash a lesson too. The unglamorous engine behind the trilogy, shot up close.
Output — Short episode (~2 min) + 2 reels
The biggest stage. Both brothers. Together.
The climax. Red Bull King of the Air, the most brutal event in the sport. Lorenzo and Leonardo in the same arena, the family waiting on the wind, everything the method was built for compressed into a few days. We shoot the pressure, the silence before the launch, the look between two brothers. Win or crash — this is where the story peaks.
Output — Short episode (~2 min) + 2 reels · Cape Town
This is where the method lives.
The Casati home, today. Not the podiums — the in-between. Mornings, gear drying in the sun, dinners that slide into training analysis. The house as the headquarters of a way of life, where discipline is just habit and family is the team. The ordinary that makes the extraordinary possible.
Output — Short episode (~2 min) + 2 reels
The team
This isn't an outside crew. Mattia Baruffaldi has shared years of trips and kite sessions with the Casatis: a friend before a director, with the access and trust a family gives only to its own.
An action cinematographer and director based in Milan, he shoots commercials and branded films, from MotoGP to the water, for names like Red Bull, Ducati, Moncler, Kappa and Lamborghini.
